My name is Mr. Liconti and I teach at Philip Pocock Catholic Secondary School in the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board. I previously taught at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, St. Marguerite d'Youville and St. Thomas Aquinas. I've been teaching in Ontario high schools since September 2001. I have taught in the Alternative Education Program, English, Computer Science, English online (E-Learn) and Communications Technology.
Questions or concerns? Please come see me during my office hours in the English office.
I started using the internet as both a place and a way to teach high school students in 2006 with my educational blog ENG4U1.
I maintain that blog at http://eng4u1.blogspot.com
I have some videos on YouTube located at http://youtube.com/mrliconti
I am addicted to my Kobo Touch eReader ... but nothing beats a public library card.
I was am a Slackware Linux enthusiast, and I wrote an slackbuilds script for GCompris (8.4.12). GCompris is an educational software suite comprising of numerous activities for children aged 2 to 10. Some of the activities are game orientated, but nonetheless still educational. Currently GCompris offers in excess of 80 activities and more are being developed. GCompris currently is translated in more than 40 languages. GCompris runs fine on the PC 233MHz with 64MB of memory and 150MB of disk space. The install script is hosted at Slackbuilds.org. Feel free to try it out. Please note that GCompris requires both gnet & pysqlite2. Both these dependencies can be installed with their respective slackbuilds scripts (or from source...).
Recently, I've been moved to Ubuntu. It's been an interesting switch...
I use a Chromebook and a Mac. I manage some linux appliances as well. Work keeps me in the land of Windows.
Currently, this website contains information and resources for ENG4U, ICS2O, ICS3C, ICS3U, ICS4U, ENG3U, ENG3C, and ENG4C.
I thought about archiving computer science student projects that made me proud.
This is my new Google Site. I started moving over my stuff in the summer of 2019. Google is sun-setting 'Classic' Sites(sites.google.com/site/mrliconti). This was an old blurb, from the last time one of their products (Google Pages) was laid to rest: "This new (August 2008) website is an updated version of my old googlepages site. Please note that http://mr.liconti.googlepages.com will no longer be maintained, and is being disassembled. Please update your bookmarks.". I guess you can take what you want from that.
In no particular order, things about me:
I like Linux, so by extension, I like operating systems, programming languages and computers in general. Read this if you're curious as to why.
I try to feed my mind by reading both Fiction and Non-Fiction (including almost everything in between), when I can find the time.
I am a father and a husband.
I am a pet owner. Currently, we have a cat. Over the years we had 2 Australian Cattle Dogs and a cat.
I love music and can't survive long without it.
I enjoy being outdoors. Fishing, canoeing, walking trails, skating, camping.
I like video and board games. I'm not good at them, but I do enjoy them.
